Showing and hiding desktop icons for a space
Hyperspaces allows you to show or hide the icons on your desktop on a per-space basis. This can be help you setup a space (or more than one space) where your desktop is free of distractions.
- Open the Hyperspaces Preferences.
- Select the Your Spaces toolbar item.
- Select the space (or spaces) that you would like to change the menu transparency for in the space selection view.
- Ensure that the Options tab is selected.
- Check/uncheck the Show desktop icons checkbox.
There are a couple of options that can make interacting with the desktop and finder easier — these are disabled by default:
- Click to bring the Finder to the front
- Enabling this setting will cause mouse clicks on the desktop image to bring the Finder to the front. Depending on your Spaces settings, this may cause your current space to change to the space with an active window for the Finder.
- Double-clicking on the desktop opens a new Finder window
- Enabling this setting will cause double-clicks on the desktop image to open a new Finder window focused on your desktop folder. Depending on your Spaces settings, this may cause your current space to change to the space with an active window for the Finder.
